Calorie tracking on your Apple Watch

PlateLens ships a native Apple Watch app with the iPhone app. Log a meal by speaking it, re-log the meals you eat often, track water and exercise, ask the coach — and keep any of your gauges on the watch face, updated through the day.

What you can do from the wrist

Your gauges on the watch face

Any gauge you track in PlateLens — calories, protein, water, steps, streak and every other gauge on your account — can live on the watch face as a complication. It shows today's value and your target, works in the circular, corner, rectangular and inline slots, and refreshes in the background through the day.

Honest by design: a watch-face complication is a glance, not a live app. PlateLens keeps it a few minutes behind on purpose instead of pretending it is real-time.

What stays on the phone

Photo scanning stays on the iPhone — the watch has no camera worth pointing at a plate. Account setup, targets and gauge configuration also live in the phone app, and steps sync through Apple Health on the iPhone.

Wondering what the watch counts on its own? Apple's rings measure calories burned, not calories eaten — the full picture is in our guide: calorie tracker for Apple Watch.

Setup

There is nothing to configure: install PlateLens for iPhone, open the Watch app, and it connects to your account automatically — no codes, no manual pairing. Requires an Apple Watch on watchOS 10 or later paired to your iPhone.

Apple Watch FAQ

Can an Apple Watch track calories eaten?
Not on its own. The Move ring counts calories burned; logging calories eaten needs a tracker app. PlateLens ships a native watchOS app so you can log meals, water and exercise from the wrist.
Can I see calories or protein on my watch face?
Yes. Any gauge you track in PlateLens — calories, protein, water, steps, streak and more — can be a complication in the circular, corner, rectangular or inline slot, showing today's value and your target. It refreshes in the background through the day.
Does the PlateLens Watch app need the iPhone nearby?
You install and set up PlateLens on the iPhone; the Watch app connects automatically, with no codes and no manual pairing. After that one-time setup it talks to PlateLens over the watch's own connection.
Is the Apple Watch app included in the free plan?
Yes. It is part of the same account and the same plan as the phone app — the free plan's daily allowances apply on every device.
