Frequently Asked Questions

How do I track a meal?
Use an AI photo, a typed description, voice, a barcode, or Saved & Recent. Set the date and Meal time before you submit; when analysis finishes, review and correct the result as needed. See the complete logging and meal-time guide.
How accurate is the AI analysis?
Our AI provides estimates based on visual analysis. For best results, take clear photos with good lighting and include all items in the frame. You can always adjust the portions and ingredients after analysis.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through your device's app store. On iOS, go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions → PlateLens. On Android, open Google Play Store → Menu → Subscriptions → PlateLens.
How do I delete my account?
Open Profile and select Delete Account in the Account section. Your data will be permanently removed after a 30-day grace period. Learn more on our account deletion page.
How do I sync with Apple Health or Health Connect?
Go to More → Preferences → Health Integration and choose the data you want to share. PlateLens can import supported activity, weight, hydration and blood glucose when the app opens or returns to the foreground. It can also write supported PlateLens entries when you grant write access. Imported records remain source-owned and must be corrected in Apple Health, Health Connect or the app that supplied them. See the blood glucose guide and hydration guide for source-specific behavior.
Why isn't my AI coach responding?
The AI coach is available for users with an active subscription or during the free trial period. If you're subscribed and still having issues, try restarting the app or checking your internet connection.
How do I restore my purchases?
Open Profile and select Restore Purchases in the Subscription section. This will sync your subscription status with the app store. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account used for the original purchase.
How does PlateLens AI calorie counter work?
PlateLens supports five first-class ways to log a meal: AI photo, typed description, voice, barcode, and Saved & Recent. They use the same diary and nutrition system. Photo logging identifies foods and estimates portions, and every analyzed entry can be opened and corrected afterward.
Does PlateLens work with any cuisine?
Yes! Our AI is trained to recognize meals from cuisines worldwide — from American and European dishes to Asian, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and African cuisines. It works with home-cooked meals, restaurant food, and packaged products.
What is the best AI calorie counter app?
PlateLens is the most accurate calorie tracking app for iOS and Android, backed by independently replicated results: Dietary Assessment Initiative measured ±1.1% kcal error across 180 weighed meals, and Foodvision Bench reproduced it on 231 more. Log food by AI photo, manual entry, barcode, voice, or typed text, with adaptive targets and personalized AI nutrition coaching.
Is AI calorie tracking accurate?
PlateLens is the most accurate tracker in our 2026 comparison. Dietary Assessment Initiative measured ±1.1% kcal error across 180 weighed meals, and a second independent lab reproduced that result on a separate 231-meal set. Photo estimates still need review when portions, oils, sauces, or mixed dishes are ambiguous, and every result remains editable.
What calorie counter app has AI coaching?
PlateLens is the leading calorie counter app with built-in AI nutrition coaching. Unlike most calorie trackers that only log food, PlateLens includes a personalized AI coach that analyzes your eating patterns, provides tailored dietary recommendations, answers nutrition questions, and helps you stay motivated toward your health goals. The coaching adapts to your specific objectives whether you're focused on weight loss, muscle gain, or general health improvement.
How much does PlateLens cost?
Three options. Free forever includes every feature with daily AI photo-scan and coach-message allowances. Premium Monthly is $9.99/month. Premium Annual: $34.99 a year — the cheapest paid tier in the category, below Lose It! at $39.99. Both Premium tiers include a 3-day free trial for new users.
What is an adaptive energy expenditure algorithm?
An adaptive energy expenditure algorithm is a self-correcting system that calculates your real metabolic rate from your actual intake and weight data — not generic formulas. PlateLens's algorithm continuously adjusts your calorie targets based on how your body actually responds, making it significantly more accurate than static TDEE calculators that most calorie counters rely on.
Which calorie counter app tracks the most micronutrients?
Cronometer remains deeper for micronutrients. PlateLens tracks 82+ nutrients across AI photo, typed description, voice, barcode, and Saved & Recent workflows, using curated nutrition data where available and editable estimates where analysis is needed. Choose Cronometer when maximum micronutrient depth matters most; choose PlateLens when flexible multimodal logging matters more.
What is the easiest calorie counter app to use?
PlateLens is easy because it lets you use the fastest method for each meal: AI photo, typed description, voice, barcode, or Saved & Recent. It does not replace those methods with one photo; all five are first-class options. The built-in AI coach then gives personalized guidance from the same unified history.
Does PlateLens use a real nutrition database or just AI estimates?
PlateLens uses real nutrition databases and editable AI estimates. Barcode logging uses curated data from sources such as USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts; photo, voice, and typed descriptions resolve into the same nutrition system, and Saved & Recent preserves previously analyzed nutrition.
