Use PlateLens in ChatGPT

The PlateLens plugin for ChatGPT lets ChatGPT read the food diary you keep in PlateLens and answer questions about it: today’s nutrition, your meals, your trends, your weight, your activity and your energy balance. Access is read-only: you log meals in the PlateLens app, and ChatGPT reads them.

Before you start

Install and connect

  1. Open PlateLens in ChatGPT’s Plugins directory, or search for PlateLens under Plugins in ChatGPT.
  2. Select Install plugin.
  3. When asked, sign in at auth.platelens.app with the same Google or Apple account you use in PlateLens. There is no key or code to create or paste.
  4. Review the permissions and approve the ones you want.
  5. Start a conversation and ask, for example, “Summarize today’s PlateLens nutrition and activity.”
Use the same account. Signing in with a different Google or Apple account connects a different PlateLens account, which can look empty.

What each permission covers

Profile and targets

Your current goal, activity level, units, calorie and macro targets, hydration and step goals, and target weight.

Nutrition

Each day’s nutrition and hydration, your meals with their ingredients and micronutrients, and nutrition trends over up to 90 days.

Activity

Device activity and manually logged exercise over up to 90 days, kept separate from each other.

Weight

Your weight and body-fat trend over up to 365 days. Progress photos and notes are not part of it.

Glucose (optional)

Recorded glucose readings in mmol/L with their measurement time, source and provenance, up to 31 days per request. Glucose is approved on its own and is never added to an existing connection automatically.

Energy-balance answers combine nutrition, activity and profile. Approving fewer permissions works; ChatGPT simply answers fewer questions.

What stays in the PlateLens app

Logging and editing meals, exercise, weight and goals, meal photos, coach conversations, subscriptions and account settings all stay in the PlateLens app. The plugin reads your diary and leaves your records exactly as you logged them. ChatGPT’s answers reflect the estimates in your diary and are general information, not medical advice.

Add glucose later

An existing connection keeps the permissions it was approved with. To add glucose, reconnect PlateLens and approve the glucose permission when it is requested. Your other permissions keep working in the meantime.

Disconnect

Revoking in PlateLens stops the connection on PlateLens’s side, even if ChatGPT still lists the plugin. Disconnecting never signs you out of PlateLens, and deleting your PlateLens account removes these authorizations.

If something doesn’t work

Still stuck? Email Support with the question you asked, the approximate time and the message ChatGPT showed. Never send passwords or sign-in codes.

Privacy

PlateLens’s tools accept only structured requests such as dates, periods, meal types and meal IDs, and every request is checked against the permissions you approved. ChatGPT’s notice on the plugin page explains what ChatGPT may share with connected apps. How PlateLens handles your data is in the privacy policy. The full list of read-only tools is on the PlateLens MCP server page, and How to count calories with ChatGPT covers what to ask.
