Connect PlateLens on Apple Watch

PlateLens on Apple Watch connects to the account signed in on your paired iPhone. Setup normally starts automatically. If the Watch asks you to connect, open PlateLens on the iPhone and use Connect on the Watch.

Connect for the first time

  1. Keep your paired iPhone and Apple Watch nearby, with a working internet connection.
  2. Open PlateLens on the iPhone. Sign in and complete account setup so you can see your normal Home screen.
  3. Install PlateLens on Apple Watch from the iPhone's Watch → My Watch → Available Apps list if it is not installed.
  4. Open PlateLens on the Watch. Let automatic preparation finish, or tap Connect if the connection screen appears.

You do not need to enter a code, password or email on the Watch. Android and the web app cannot perform this companion setup.

Understand the connection screen

Preparing or connecting

The Watch is starting the connection. The moving indicator is brief; a longer wait displays a connection status and keeps the retry action available. A stopped indicator does not mean that connection failed.

Waiting for the iPhone or completing the connection

Keep PlateLens open on the iPhone and read the status shown on the Watch. The Watch can continue the current attempt and retry when communication becomes available. Tapping the connection action resumes that attempt without starting a second account setup.

Connected, loading today's data

Your Watch connection is ready. Loading today's meals and metrics is a separate step. If loading fails, use its retry action; you do not need to reconnect just to refresh today's data.

If the iPhone is open but the Watch keeps waiting

  1. Check that the iPhone shows PlateLens Home, rather than sign-in, account setup or account recovery.
  2. Check the connection between the paired devices and internet access. An open iPhone app does not by itself confirm that the Watch can communicate with it.
  3. Return to PlateLens on the Watch. If it still asks for help, tap the connection action once and follow the displayed status.
  4. If the attempt expires or reports a failure, keep the iPhone app open and retry. Repeated rapid taps do not make synchronization arrive sooner.

If it still cannot connect, contact Support with the exact Watch message, approximate time of the attempt, app version and iOS/watchOS versions. Do not send passwords or authentication codes.

System delivery can take time. Apple schedules communication and secure synchronization according to device and network conditions. PlateLens cannot promise an instant first connection.

After connection

A valid saved Watch session opens PlateLens without waiting for the iPhone. The Watch loads data directly over the internet when a connection is available and can show its saved data while offline. First setup and some recovery situations still need the paired iPhone.

Connecting does not change your meals, hydration, exercise, targets or reports. It gives the Watch access to the same account and loads its supported data. Account settings, subscription purchases and restores stay on the iPhone. See what you can do on Apple Watch and how to choose the daily metrics shown on Home.

After signing out or disconnecting

Signing out on the iPhone or explicitly disconnecting the Watch stops automatic reuse of that connection. To connect again, finish signing in on the paired iPhone and explicitly choose Connect on the Watch. Reopening an app alone does not undo an intentional disconnection.

If the iPhone cannot reach both the server and the Watch, a sign-out may take time to reach the Watch. The old session stops when the Watch receives the sign-out, the server rejects it, or its saved validity ends. Disconnecting clears local Watch data and pending work; entries already saved to your PlateLens account remain there.
