Which days count in Balance
If you logged everything you ate on a finalized day, you can choose Count this day in full to include it in Balance. The number of meals does not decide whether the day counts. A day awaiting finalization is a separate state: its calculation has not closed yet.
Open the day you want to check
iPhone or Android
Open More → Balance. In the week view, tap the date in Days; in the month view, tap its calendar cell. You can also choose Day and navigate to the date. Look for Counted as in the day's details.
Web app
Open Balance under Diary in the navigation. Choose the Day view and the date, or open a dated row in the expanded day ledger. The Counted as card explains its status and any available correction.
What the day states mean
- Counted: the day is finalized and included in Balance's period averages and totals.
- Partial: the day is excluded from those calculations because its intake was classified as incomplete, or because you marked it partial.
- In progress: today is still underway. Today's food can be visible without being included in the period average.
- Finalization pending (iPhone and web): the day has ended, but its balance has not finalized yet. It remains excluded even if all meals are recorded. On Android, this state can appear as In progress.
- Not logged: there is no countable food intake for the day. It is not treated as a complete day with zero calories.
Days with data and days counted answer different questions. A day can have meals or activity data and still be partial or pending. Its individual numbers may be visible while its contribution to the period average remains excluded.
Why a day is automatically marked partial
When the day's saved calorie target is available, PlateLens classifies positive food intake below 50% of that target as partial. It uses the saved base target, before an activity bonus, and does not require a minimum number of meals. With a saved target of 2,000 kcal, for example, fewer than 1,000 logged kcal is below this threshold.
This is a check for potentially missing records, not proof that you ate too little or a rule about how often to eat. One or two larger meals can count after the day finalizes. If a partial day really contains everything you ate, use the correction below.
Count a complete day or exclude an incomplete one
- Open a finalized day that still has food recorded and find Counted as.
- If it is partial but you logged everything, choose Count this day in full.
- If it is counted but you know food is missing, choose Mark as partial.
- Check the saved status. The day is included in, or excluded from, Balance's averages and totals for the periods containing it.
Your choice remains while the day has countable food intake. Removing all its meals removes that basis for the choice, so the day returns to automatic classification. Changing the counting status does not add, delete or edit meals, exercise or health records.
The correction is unavailable while the day is provisional or has no countable intake. Count this day in full is not a manual closing button. It changes how a finalized day's food is classified.
When a day finalizes
Automatic finalization begins after 02:00 the following day, in the time zone associated with that day. It runs in the background; you do not need to open PlateLens at that time. Just after midnight, yesterday can normally remain pending while this overnight window has not passed.
If an earlier day remains pending after the overnight window, pull to refresh Balance on mobile or reload the web page. Refresh checks the current state; it does not manually close the day. If it remains pending, contact support@platelens.app with the affected dates, your time zone and the status shown. Keep the real meal records as they are; adding extra entries to make a day count would change its intake.
Meals, activity and the saved plan
Balance uses the day's recorded food and activity together with its saved plan. Correcting an actual meal or activity entry can update that day's figures and the periods containing it. Finalization preserves the plan recorded for the day; changing your goals now does not supply evidence that today's target applied to an earlier date.
Older records may have missing or reconstructed plan estimates. Finalization cannot recover historical targets that were never recorded. Treat a displayed reconstructed or estimated value as such.
Both mobile and web read the same Balance records and offer the same finalized-day counting correction. Apple Health and Health Connect activity sync comes through the phone app; a browser cannot fetch those device records itself. See activity-adjusted targets for how activity affects your daily budget.
When the weekly result appears
The period verdict needs at least two finalized counted days. On iPhone and the web app, an estimated weight pace waits for three counted days and the data needed to calculate it. Expenditure and weight pace are estimates; the day count describes the records available, not a guarantee about future weight.
