Introducing Activity-Adjusted Carb and Fat Targets
When activity raises your calorie allowance but your macro targets stay still, the day can tell two different stories. PlateLens now lets you choose whether burned calories change calories alone or also raise carbohydrate and fat for that day.
One activity bonus, three ways to use it
Your nutrition plan still provides the base targets. The activity setting decides what happens on top of that plan as synced movement or manually logged exercise is added.
| Mode | What changes |
|---|---|
| Off | Activity is recorded, but calorie, carbohydrate and fat targets do not rise. |
| Calories only | The calorie target rises. Carbohydrate, fat, protein and micronutrient targets stay at their base values. PlateLens starts in this mode. |
| Calories plus carbs and fat | The calorie target rises, and the same activity bonus is allocated to carbohydrate and fat so those targets can rise after whole-gram rounding. Protein and micronutrients stay fixed. |
Your existing carb and fat balance stays intact
When carbohydrate and fat adjustment is on, PlateLens shares the activity calorie bonus using the same energy proportion as your personalized base carbohydrate and fat targets. It then converts those shares into grams using 4 kcal per gram of carbohydrate and 9 kcal per gram of fat, with targets rounded to whole grams.
Protein stays anchored to the nutrition plan instead of changing every time activity changes. Micronutrient targets also remain fixed. Net carbs derive from the carbohydrate target, so their daily comparison follows the adjusted carbohydrate target.
One effective target across PlateLens
PlateLens keeps the base plan and the day's activity adjustment distinct, then shows the effective target wherever intake for that date is compared with a target.
| Surface | What you see |
|---|---|
| Mobile | Home, Diary, metric details and meal contribution views compare intake with the effective target. Carb and fat details can show Base + Activity = Today's target. |
| Web | Today and Diary use the effective target for each date, including day, week and month comparisons. Metric details identify the amount added from activity. |
| PDF reports | Weekly and monthly reports use the effective targets for the logged diary days included in the report. When daily targets differ, the report identifies the period target as a daily average. |
| Apple Watch | Home, rings and complications use the effective target. Open carbohydrate or fat details to see Base, Activity and Today's target. The setting itself is changed on iPhone. |
| Daily Score and League | The carb and fat preference does not change scoring. Protein remains fixed, so activity does not move its scoring target. |
Past days keep their own context
Open days use the plan and preferences that currently apply. Once a day is closed, PlateLens keeps its base targets and activity preferences. Synced or manually logged activity remains tied to its actual date, so a closed day's effective target can still update if one of those activity sources changes. Changing the preference later does not judge old intake against today's plan.
The Support guide explains how PlateLens labels reconstructed historical targets and what happens when there is not enough data for a meaningful comparison.
Count each workout once
The activity bonus combines movement synced from your phone or wearable with exercise you log manually. Do not manually add the same workout that your wearable already counted, or it can be included twice.
Your base calorie target normally includes an everyday amount of movement. If the activity level you selected already assumes your workouts, adding all measured exercise on top can over-credit the day. In that case, turn the calorie adjustment off or choose a base activity level that excludes those workouts.
How to choose your mode
On iPhone or Android, open More → Nutrition & Goals. On the web, open Targets → Daily targets. Turn on Add burned calories to goal, then choose whether to enable Adjust carbs and fat for activity. The second option only appears while the calorie adjustment is on.
