Halloween Candy Calories: Fun-Size Bars and More, Ranked

A fun-size Snickers, Twix or Milky Way has 80 calories, and most fun-size and snack-size chocolate bars land between 65 and 90: a snack-size Kit Kat is 70, a fun-size Butterfinger 85, and a snack-size Reese's cup, near the top, 110. Most carry 7 to 11 g of sugar. Chewy and fruity candy is smaller per piece, from 20 calories for a Starburst to 60 for a fun-size Skittles pack, but it is mostly sugar. These are the makers' current labels, and three fun-size Snickers (240 calories) come to about one full-size bar (250).

Fun-size bars and Halloween candy, ranked by calories

One piece as it comes out of the bag, lowest to highest. Calories, sugar and fat are per piece. The last column is the serving printed on the bag, because for many of these candies it is not one piece.

One piece of each candy, lowest to highest calories. The makers' labels on their product pages, or the label records USDA FoodData Central holds for them, read 21 October 2026. Where the bag's serving is several pieces, the per-piece figures divide it. York prints no weight; its 4.8 oz bag holds 8 pieces.

Weight explains most of the order. Every chocolate piece of 13 to 15 g lands at 65 to 75 calories, and every one at 95 or more weighs at least 20 g; of the 24 chocolate bars and packs, 18 fall between 65 and 90. Gram for gram they are close: all but the peppermint York sit between 433 and 536 calories per 100 g, while per piece they run from 65 to 130. York is the light one, 60 calories for its 17 g.

Read the bag before you count it. For 15 of those 24 chocolate candies, the serving on the bag is two pieces: the fun-size Butterfinger label says 170 calories, and its serving is two bars. Log one bar as “one serving” and it counts twice. Snickers, Twix, Milky Way and the Reese's cup are labeled one piece at a time, which is why a bag of fun-size Snickers shows 80 calories a serving and a bag of Butterfinger 170 for bars of nearly the same size.

Fun size, snack size, minis: same name, different piece

“Fun size” is what Mars and Ferrara call their small bars, “snack size” is Hershey's name for the same idea, and minis or miniatures are a third, smaller piece sold in their own bags. None of them is a standard weight. Mars's fun-size bars run from 15 to 26 g, Hershey's snack sizes from 13 to 21 g, and the minis from 6 to 10 g. The same brand can therefore be three different amounts of candy:

Calories per piece by size, from the makers' labels. A dash means that size is not sold or was not checked.

Kit Kat—14 g, 70 kcal1.5 oz bar, 210 kcal
Reese's Pumpkin—17 g, 85 kcal1.2 oz pumpkin, 170 kcal

A Snickers is 43, 80 or 250 calories depending on which one is in your hand, a spread of nearly six times. The snack-size Reese's cup is the odd one: at 21 g it weighs the same as each cup in the standard two-cup pack, so it is the same amount of candy as one regular cup, wrapped on its own.

How many fun-size bars make a full-size bar?

Fewer than you might guess. Using the makers' own labels:

3 fun-size Snickers = 51 g, 240 calories, against 250 for one 1.86 oz Snickers.

3 snack-size Kit Kats = 42 g, 210 calories, exactly one 1.5 oz Kit Kat.

2 snack-size Reese's cups = 42 g, 220 calories, against 210 for the standard two-cup pack.

5 different pieces (a fun-size Snickers, Twix, Milky Way and Butterfinger and a snack-size Reese's cup) = 435 calories.

Sugar adds up at the same pace. Three fun-size Snickers hold 27 g of sugar, 24 g of it added, which is 48% of the 50 g Daily Value for added sugars that the FDA uses on labels. A single snack-size Reese's cup has 10 g of added sugar, 20% of it.

Candy corn and Reese's Pumpkins, by the piece

Candy corn is the one Halloween candy people eat by the handful rather than by the wrapper. Brach's labels 15 pieces at 110 calories, and its label record in USDA FoodData Central puts those 15 pieces at 31 g, so each kernel is about 2 g and 7 calories, with no fat and 22 to 23 g of sugar per 15. A loose handful of 30 is 220 calories. Brach's treat packs, sold as individual pouches, are 50 calories each, and a mellowcreme pumpkin is 30.

Reese's Pumpkins come in two sizes that look alike on a shelf. The snack-size pumpkin in the Halloween bag is 17 g and 85 calories; the 1.2 oz pumpkin in its own package is 34 g and 170 calories, exactly twice as much, with 16 g of sugar and 4 g of protein. If you are roasting the seeds from your own jack-o'-lantern instead, our pumpkin seeds guide has those numbers.

The lowest-calorie Halloween candy, and what it costs in sugar

By the piece, the lightest options are the small chewy and hard candies:

Lower in calories is not lower in sugar. Per 100 calories, Nerds carry 24 g of sugar, candy corn about 20 g and Skittles 18 g, against about 10 g for a Reese's cup, a Twix or a pack of Peanut M&M's, where fat supplies more of the calories. If sugar is the number you are watching, a fun-size pack of Skittles (60 calories, 11 g of sugar) costs more of it than a fun-size Snickers (80 calories, 9 g). Why calorie lists for Halloween candy disagree

Older figures are often not wrong so much as old. USDA's SR Legacy database, whose final release came out in April 2018, lists fun-size portions for several of these candies, and the pieces on today's labels do not always match them:

The same candy in USDA's SR Legacy record and on today's label. SR Legacy FDC IDs 169589, 168843, 168763 and 168759.
Candy USDA SR Legacy (2018) Today's label
Snickers, fun size15 g, 74 kcal17 g, 80 kcal
Skittles, fun-size pack20 g, 81 kcal15 g, 60 kcal
Reese's cup, one-cup package17 g, 88 kcal21 g, 110 kcal (snack size)
Mounds, snack size19 g, 94 kcal17 g, 80 kcal

The differences run both ways: today's Skittles pack is a quarter lighter than USDA's, and today's snack-size Reese's cup carries a quarter more calories than USDA's one-cup package. An entry is right only for the piece it was measured on, so a log built from older records can be off in either direction on the same night.

Logging Halloween candy piece by piece

A Snickers is 43 calories as a mini, 80 fun size and 250 full size, and the bag may count one piece or two as a serving. PlateLens logs what you actually ate from a photo or a sentence you would say — “three fun-size Twix and about ten candy corns” — and estimates the sugar too; a wrong size takes one more sentence with Fix it: “they were minis.” The Dietary Assessment Initiative found a ±1.1% mean calorie error for photo logging across 180 weighed meals in its published validation study, and the open-source Foodvision Bench has also reproduced that result on 231 meals on its public leaderboard on GitHub. Both describe calories across many meals, not each piece of candy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the easiest app for logging a few fun-size candy bars?

PlateLens logs them in one step, from a photo or a sentence like "two fun-size Snickers and a snack-size Reese's cup", with no weighing or searching, and estimates the sugar with the calories; "they were minis" fixes the size. That matters because one name covers several pieces: a Snickers is 43 calories as a mini, 80 as a fun-size bar and 250 full size, and for 15 of 24 chocolate candies the bag's serving is two pieces. In the Dietary Assessment Initiative's published validation study, PlateLens had the lowest mean calorie error of six apps, ±1.1% on 180 weighed meals in photo mode, and Foodvision Bench has also reproduced it on 231 meals in its public leaderboard on GitHub.

How many calories are in fun-size Halloween candy?

Most fun-size and snack-size chocolate bars have 65 to 90 calories each: a Twix, Snickers or Milky Way is 80, a Kit Kat 70 and a Butterfinger 85. The range runs from 60 for a snack-size York to 130 for a fun-size Snickers Crunchy Peanut Butter Square, and a snack-size Reese's cup is 110. Non-chocolate pieces are smaller: a Starburst is 20, a Tootsie Roll 26, a fun-size Skittles pack 60 and 15 pieces of candy corn 110.

How many calories are in a fun-size Snickers?

80 calories in a 17 g bar, with 9 g of sugar (8 g added), 4 g of fat and 1 g of protein, according to Mars's label. A Snickers Minis piece is 9 g and about 43 calories, and a full-size 1.86 oz bar is 250, so three fun-size bars (240) come close to one full-size bar.

How many calories are in fun-size M&M's?

A fun-size pack of milk chocolate M&M's is about 65 calories: the bag's label gives 130 calories and 17 g of sugar for two packs, which weigh 27 g together. A fun-size pack of Peanut M&M's is 18 g and 90 calories, with 9 g of sugar and 2 g of protein.

How many calories are in a Reese's Pumpkin?

A snack-size Reese's Pumpkin is 85 calories, since the bag lists two pieces (34 g) at 170. The full-size 1.2 oz pumpkin weighs 34 g on its own and has 170 calories, 16 g of sugar and 4 g of protein, twice the snack size. A snack-size Reese's Peanut Butter Cup is 110.

How many calories are in candy corn?

About 7 calories a piece. Brach's label gives 110 calories for 15 pieces (31 g), with 22 to 23 g of sugar and no fat, so a handful of 30 is 220. A Brach's candy corn treat pack is 50 calories, and a mellowcreme pumpkin 30.

What is the lowest-calorie Halloween candy?

By the piece, chewy and hard candy: a Starburst is 20 calories, a Jolly Rancher or a Hershey's Kiss 23 and a Tootsie Roll 26. Among chocolate, a snack-size York is 60, and a snack-size Hershey's bar, a fun-size Crunch or 3 Musketeers and a fun-size pack of M&M's are 65. Fewer calories do not mean less sugar: candy corn carries about 20 g of sugar per 100 calories and Skittles 18 g, against about 10 g in a Reese's cup or a Twix.

What's the difference between fun size, snack size and minis?

They are the makers' own names, not standard sizes. Mars's fun-size bars weigh 15 to 26 g, Hershey's snack sizes 13 to 21 g, and minis or miniatures 6 to 10 g. A Snickers Minis piece is 9 g and 43 calories, against 17 g and 80 for a fun-size Snickers.
