Chipotle calorie calculator: bowl, burrito, salad or tacos

Build your order and watch the calories and macros add up. This Chipotle calorie calculator sums Chipotle's own published nutrition chart, one scoop at a time: pick a burrito, bowl, salad or tacos, then rice, beans, protein, toppings and sides, and it returns calories, protein, carbs, fat, saturated fat, sodium, fiber and sugar for the whole build. As a sanity check, the chart's own ranges are 740–1,210 calories for a burrito, 420–910 for a bowl or salad and 390–1,140 for three tacos with standard single scoops.

How the calculation works

There is no formula here, only a sum. Chipotle publishes calories and ten other nutrition values for every ingredient at one standard portion, and the calculator adds up the rows you selected, multiplied by how many portions of each you chose. No number is estimated, modelled or rounded: the totals are sums of the figures exactly as printed on the chart.

Total for each nutrient = Σ (published value of the ingredient at its chart portion × number of portions)

Base: a burrito adds one flour burrito tortilla (320 kcal); a salad adds the 3 oz supergreens mix (15 kcal); tacos add three crispy corn tortillas (70 kcal each) or three soft flour taco tortillas (80 kcal each); a bowl adds nothing.

Tacos: the chart publishes taco tortillas and taco romaine per unit but no smaller taco protein portion, so the three tacos together carry the same 4 oz protein and standard topping portions as a bowl.

Double protein and extra rice count the same published row twice. Veggie is the 4 oz guacamole row, which is how the chart describes that option.

Sides: chips & guacamole is the regular chips row plus the 4 oz guacamole row (540 + 230 = 770), and chips & queso blanco is chips plus the 4 oz queso side (540 + 240 = 780). Both match the combo figures Chipotle prints on the menu side of the chart.

Make it lighter: the calculator compares every single change available from your current build (bowl instead of burrito, crispy corn instead of soft flour, a lighter protein, green salsa instead of another salsa, dropping one topping, plain chips instead of a combo) and names the one that removes the most calories, with its sodium change.

Fiber: the chart prints the taco flour tortilla's fiber as "<1 g" rather than a number; it is shown that way and counted as 0 in the fiber total.

Three things the table makes obvious. White and brown rice are both 210 calories, and the brown is 160 mg lower in sodium. Cheese and sour cream are both 110 calories, with cheese carrying 4 g more protein and 160 mg more sodium. And the tomatillo-green chili salsa, at 15 calories and 260 mg, is the lightest salsa on both counts; the fresh tomato salsa is only 25 calories but 550 mg of sodium.

Drinks are not in the builder because they do not change with the build, but the chart lists them. At the regular 22 fl oz size: Chipotle Iced Tea 10 calories, Chipotle Sweet Iced Tea 150 (45 g sugar), Tractor Lemonade 170 (37 g), Tractor Mandarin Agua Fresca 190 (47 g), Tractor Berry Agua Fresca 200 (49 g) and Tractor Watermelon Limeade 230 (50 g). Fountain sodas run from 0 for the diet versions to 260 for Coca-Cola Classic or 280 for Pepsi; the chart carries both line-ups because restaurants serve one or the other.

Limits of the estimate

Chipotle's own caveat, printed on the chart: "Serving sizes are approximations only based on how menu items are usually prepared and may vary from order to order. Nutritional content may vary because of variations in portion size or recipes, changes in growing seasons, or differences in the sources of our ingredients." Every total here describes one standard scoop of each thing. A generous server, a light scoop, or the half-ladle of extra rice you were given without asking is not in these numbers.

If you have been told to watch your sodium or your calories for a medical reason, these figures are a conversation with your doctor or a registered dietitian, not a plan to follow from a web page.

Frequently asked questions

How many calories are in a Chipotle bowl?

Chipotle's own chart gives 420 to 910 calories for a burrito bowl with standard single scoops. Its per-ingredient rows are: white or brown rice 210, black or pinto beans 130, chicken 180, steak 150, barbacoa 170, carnitas 210, sofritas 150, fresh tomato salsa 25, cheese 110, sour cream 110 and guacamole 230. A chicken bowl with white rice, black beans, fresh tomato salsa and cheese sums to 655.

Is a Chipotle bowl 1,000 calories?

It can be, but only with most of the toppings on. A chicken bowl with white rice, black beans, fresh tomato salsa, cheese, sour cream, guacamole and romaine sums to exactly 1,000 calories on Chipotle's published values. The same bowl without the guacamole and sour cream is 660. The chart's own range for a bowl is 420 to 910 with standard scoops.

Is a Chipotle bowl 2,000 calories?

Not with standard scoops. Chipotle's chart tops the bowl range at 910, and even a bowl with double carnitas, extra rice, beans and every topping on the chart sums to 1,935. Reaching 2,000 in one meal takes a burrito plus a side: a chicken burrito with white rice, black beans, fresh tomato salsa, cheese, sour cream and guacamole is 1,315, and regular chips with guacamole add 770.

What can I eat at Chipotle for 500 calories?

Several builds fit. Supergreens, black beans, chicken, fajita vegetables, fresh tomato salsa and tomatillo-green salsa is 385 calories with 42 g of protein. Brown rice, chicken, fajita vegetables, green salsa and romaine is 430. Black beans, chicken, fajita vegetables, fresh tomato salsa and cheese with no rice is 465. The burrito tortilla alone is 320, so a burrito rarely fits.

What is the lowest calorie food at Chipotle?

By row on Chipotle's chart: romaine lettuce 5 calories, supergreens 15, tomatillo-green chili salsa 15, fajita vegetables 20 and fresh tomato salsa 25. Among the proteins, steak and sofritas tie at 150 calories per 4 oz portion. The lightest complete build the calculator can make is steak, fajita vegetables, green salsa and romaine in a bowl at 190 calories; adding black beans makes it 320.

Is a Chipotle bowl a healthy option?

That depends on the build, not on the bowl. A chicken bowl with white rice, black beans, fresh tomato salsa and cheese is 655 calories and 50 g of protein, but also 1,610 mg of sodium, and most of that salt comes from the salsa, the rice and the chicken rather than from the cheese. Read the sodium figure next to the calories, and if you follow a sodium limit, check your build against your own doctor's or dietitian's advice.

Is the Chipotle calorie calculator accurate?

It is exactly as accurate as Chipotle's chart, which the calculator sums without changing a single number. Chipotle itself states that serving sizes are approximations based on how items are usually prepared and may vary from order to order. A heavy scoop of rice or a light one of chicken is not in these figures, so treat every total as a standard-scoop reference and log what you actually received.
